SEVERAL Ynys Môn sports clubs and voluntary organisations have recently benefited from a grant via the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
The Shared Prosperity Fund has allocated £400,000 to Anglesey County Council to boost our ‘Active Island’ initiative.
Môn Actif, the Council’s Leisure Service, has approved 30 successful applications across a range of different clubs and voluntary organisations – directly enabling them to increase participation numbers.
Holyhead Sailing Club, one of the successful applicants, has recently been able to introduce sailing to more children and young people; whilst Llanddona Village Hall has been able to encourage exercise amongst older generations through their green gym initiative.
Leisure portfolio holder, Councillor Neville Evans said: “This much welcomed funding has helped our sports clubs and voluntary organisations across the Island. The projects I’ve visited so far have been most grateful for the funding and are excited about the opportunities that will arise for local communities.”
He added: “This important funding is enabling local organisations to increase participation in physical activities – helping to make Anglesey an ‘active island.’ It also supports the Council’s overarching vision ‘to create an Anglesey that is healthy and prosperous where people can thrive’.”
Christian Branch, Head of Regulation and Economic Development said: “This grant funding will come as a much-welcomed boost to many of the Island’s sport clubs and voluntary groups.
“Providing resources to socialise, exercise and keep fit is vitally important to promote the health and wellbeing of our residents and visitors. I’d like to thank Môn Actif officers for all their hard work in securing and distributing the grant funding.”
