AN HISTORIC Anglesey pub, hotel and restaurant is to undergo major alterations to provide more holiday accommodation and to help grow its business.
A full application for alterations and extensions comprising kitchen extension, four additional letting bedrooms and manager’s accommodation has been submitted by the Ring Hotel at Rhosgoch.
The application has been made by Mark Gibson through the agents Peter Humphreys Architecture & Design.
Thought to have been built in 1851, the Ring was once a popular hostelry with farmers, after loading cattle on to the former Anglesey Central Railway Line that ran beside the pub.

The plans state the proposed development “simply seeks to better the manager’s living accommodation by creating a space that is sustainable and well-designed, together with extending the kitchen area to improve working conditions and creating four additional guest bedrooms to allow for business growth.”
It is also hoped the development could boost employment in the rural area, providing work for six full time and ten part time people, an equivalent of 11 full time, jobs. The pub currently employs five part time, seven full time, an equivalent of 8,5 full time, plans state.
The plans note that the applicant acquired the business in 2006, and the Ring, Rhosgoch was purchased by him in 2007. It was bought with an existing Certified Caravan Location (CL) to allow up to five static caravan/motorhome pitches.
The application stated: “Since purchasing the property, the applicant has worked tirelessly to raise the profile of the Ring, Rhosgoch focusing mainly on the tourism sector, which in turn boosts the local economy.
“Efforts include improving the Bed & Breakfast facilities by way of internal alterations to the building to allow a total of four high-quality en-suite bedroom.
“The planning application seeks full permission for alterations and extension to the existing public house to provide improvements to the manager’s accommodation.
“The owners/managers, currently reside in a static caravan on site, the application also seeks to increase the number of guest bedrooms from four to eight. ”

The proposal includes a single storey extension forward of the existing kitchen, to improve the existing kitchen facilities plans say.
A two-storey extension to the southern side of the existing building together with the single storey extension would accommodate the additional four guest bedrooms.
The proposed manager’s accommodation “is considered to be modest” and comprises of a living room, kitchen/diner, two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The scheme includes a single storey extension forward of the existing kitchen, “to improve the existing kitchen facilities.”
A two-storey extension to the southern side of the existing building together with the single storey extension to accommodate the additional four guest bedrooms with en suites.
It would bring the number of ground floor accessible guest rooms to five at the Ring, with only three guest bedrooms located at first floor.
The manager’s accommodation would be “an almost an exact replica visually of the previous two-story building which was located in the car park” the application stated.
