Cardiff dad runs first marathon for NSPCC Wales

A determined runner has achieved one of his life goals by completing his first marathon for NSPCC Wales.

Stephen Eustace, from Cardiff, joined thousands of people running the London Marathon on Sunday.

The dad-of-two had his training schedule cut short to eight weeks due to an ankle injury, and has been seeing a sports masseuse to help with his recovery.

He said: “It was a tough challenge but wow what an atmosphere, the supporters really helped me get across the line in one piece.

“I have two young children and I know how valuable the NSPCC’s support services are in Wales, particularly the work they do with schools and the Childline service.

“I coach kids playing football, spending time helping them to develop and that is quite close to my heart, so I wanted to raise money for a children’s charity.”

Stephen has raised more than £1,200 on an online fundraising page, and has also held other events such as a cake sale.

While he has previously run half-marathons, this was his first full marathon.

He added: “It’s a bit of a life goal really. I’ve thought about it for years and years.

“In the past when I ran half-marathons, I would come to the end and have a tight hamstring, or I’d be shattered, but the ones I have done recently as part of my training I have felt fine afterwards.”

Stephen, 38, credits the work of his sports masseuse in helping him prepare and completed the race in four hours and 49 minutes.

Staff from Salesforce are aiming to raise a total of £30,000 for the NSPCC by taking part in the London Marathon this year.
