WALES Home of The Year is back. The first episode of the new series is airing next Wednesday the 6th of November at 7pm on BBC One Wales.
Radio 2 presenter and renovation enthusiast Owain Wyn Evans, interior designer Mandy Watkins and award-winning architect Glen Thomas are back for a third series, as judges in search of Wales’ Home of the Year 2024.
In the six-part series, the judges scour the country, seeking out Wales’ most beautiful, surprising and unique homes across five regions; the south east, south west, mid Wales, north east, and north west. From repurposed churches and renovated cowsheds to stylish terraces.
Visiting three homes in each episode, the judges will score them on architectural merit, interior design and personal style.
In the first episode the judges head to the north west. The first stop on their tour is Beudu Dyfnant Cowshed, nestled in between the mountains of the Machno Valley. Homeowner Simon started from scratch in 2018 converting a derelict barn into a cleverly designed home of his dreams, with quirky hidden storage and a stylish curved kitchen, and windows framing the picturesque scenery surrounding the house.
Next up the judges visit a detached property in Caeathro. Lletyr Gwenol, home to Rio, Neil and their son Lorien, was originally a bungalow that they’ve extended into a colourful and creative home designed to suit the needs of their growing family.
The third contender in this week’s episode is Squirrel Cottage on Anglesey. Homeowners Joanne and Kevin moved into their home in 2020 and have spent the last few years breathing new life into this 17th century property, putting their own stamp on it while maintaining the history of the cosy cottage.
After all the judges have scored each of the homes, the house with the most points in each episode will proceed to the final and compete for the title of Wales’ Home of the Year 2024.
But this year it doesn’t just stop at the final. There’s an added sparkle to the series with an additional sixty-minute Christmas special, where the judges will visit a shortlist of five homes across the episode.
With trees fully tinselled and halls festively decked – the judges will decide at the end of the show which one wins the coveted title of Wales’ Christmas Home of the Year.
