TOM JONES has topped the UK album charts at 80, making him the oldest man to ever get a number 1 album.
56 years after he released his first album, 1965’s ‘Along Came Jones’, Sir Tom has hit the top spot again with his latest release ‘Surrounded By Time’.
The oldest person to get a number 1 album in the UK is Dame Vera Lynn who topped the charts aged 92 with a greatest hits collection released in 2009.
He’s also the first welsh chart-topper since 2012 when Marina and the Diamonds grabbed the top spot.
Speaking about his number 1, Sir Tom told said it was: “tremendous, just unbelievable. I am so proud of everyone who helped me create this music, I had a ball working with them and to get this result is just incredible.
“It’s wonderful that the public has allowed me to be musically expressive at my time of life and have shown their support. I am forever grateful.”
Surrounded By Time sees Sir Tom taking more risks with his music by doing cover versions of songs by Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, and even the Waterboys.
