A TRAGIC incident occurred during a family camping trip in Powys, mid-Wales, where 12-year-old Kaicy Rakai Zelden Brown was found unresponsive on the morning of Saturday (Sep 14). Kaicy, who lived in Earley, Berkshire, was staying in a tent with his grandfather, David Brown, while his uncle camped nearby. When his uncle entered the tent at around 11:00 AM, he discovered Kaicy unresponsive and called for emergency help. Unfortunately, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Both Kaicy and his grandfather passed away during the trip. While the circumstances around David Brown’s death remain unclear, an investigation is ongoing. A post-mortem examination carried out at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital was inconclusive, and further testing, including checks for carbon monoxide poisoning, is now underway.
At the inquest held in Pontypridd Coroner’s Court, Senior Coroner Graeme Hughes expressed his heartfelt condolences to Kaicy’s family, assuring them that the results of additional tests would be shared promptly. The inquest has been adjourned until further notice as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, family friends are raising funds to support Kaicy’s mother, Jessica Brown, with funeral costs, legal fees, and a memorial. Their goal is to raise £5,000 to help ease the financial burden caused by this unexpected tragedy.
The inquest is expected to resume early next year, as authorities work to determine the full circumstances of Kaicy and David’s deaths.
