In parts of Wales, up to 10cm (4in) of snow has fallen, resulting in more than 200 school closures and the closure of some main roads.
Specifically, 70 schools in Caerphilly, 60 in Rhondda Cynon Taf, 24 in Bridgend, 27 in Merthyr Tydfil, and two in both Neath Port Talbot and Cardiff have been shut down.
Additionally, the roads over Caerphilly and Rhigos mountains have also been closed due to the snow.
Yellow warnings for snow and ice have been issued across Wales until Friday.
Several major roads have been impacted by the snow, with the A4059 near Brecon in Powys between the Merthyr Tydfil and Ystradfellte junctions being shut down due to a two-vehicle crash.
The A469 Thornhill Road over Caerphilly mountain, which is a significant route between Cardiff and Caerphilly, has also been blocked by snow.
The A4061 Rhigos Mountain Pass between Treherbert to Rhondda Cynon Taf is also impassable due to the weather conditions.
Traffic Wales has reported congestion on the A470 and has warned of poor driving conditions on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road near Ebbw Vale.
In addition, Bristol Airport has suspended flights until 11:00 GMT due to the snow, with several planes being diverted to Birmingham.
Temperatures overnight have been extremely cold, with -15.2C recorded in Kinbrace in Scotland and -4C at Capel Curig in Snowdonia, Wales.
The Arctic blast is expected to move northwards, with a yellow warning for heavy snow in effect across much of north and mid Wales from 03:00 GMT on Thursday until 14:00 GMT on Friday.
The Met Office has cautioned that heavy snow has the potential to cause disruption in Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Anglesey, Powys, and Wrexham.
