No excuses for anti-social behaviour

ON Sunday morning, April 18 a disappointing image of litter, left over from a social gathering, could be seen across the path, benches and beach in Aberaeron.

Glass bottles, beer cans and takeaway containers were left discarded, posing a significant risk to wildlife, sealife, people and their pets.

This kind of behaviour is anti-social and illegal. It is irresponsible and unacceptable behaviour from adults and sets an appalling example to children.

A group consisting of a member of our Street Cleaning team and volunteers were busy Sunday morning clearing the mess away, 12 bin bags were collected in the end. We are grateful for the help of these volunteers who dedicated their Sunday morning but they really shouldn’t have to spend their time cleaning up after other people’s reckless actions.

We have increased the number and/or size of litter bins at a number of the most popular coastal locations. Our small team of street and beach cleaners are working hard seven days a week and the bins are emptied more often to reflect an increase in footfall at these locations.

However, the scenes from Aberaeron show no attempt was made to clean up and find a bin. To keep Ceredigion clean, we need the support of all local residents and visitors. This means people making use of litter bins if there is one available or taking their rubbish home with them if there is not. It’s really simple and everyone can do it!
