CRYMYCH extended their lead at the top of League 1 West on Saturday (Jan 21) as they beat Aberystwyth 15-20.

The Pembrokeshire side went ahead early on with a penalty and they then added the game’s first try. Owain Evans touched down and Adam Phillips added the conversion for a 0-10 lead.

It stayed that way until half time and they added to their lead early in the second half.

Carwyn Rees then added another five points to the scoreboard but this time the conversion was missed.

Ian Ellis then scored Aber’s first try of the game as he cut through but they could not add the extra two points.

Crymych responded with an unconverted try from Owain Evans, taking the score to 5-20.

Aber continued to attack and a good kick from Steffan Rees was caught by Ellis who ran on to score his second try of the game. Again the conversion could not be added.

The home side went in search of a score that would have brought them right back in the game. Paul Stubbs eventually went over for a third unconverted try but there was little time to add to the scoring.

Crymych held on for the win to move six points clear of second placed Aberystwyth, who had to settle for a losing bonus point.

On Saturday, January 28, Crymych are at home against Gorseinon while Aberystwyth travel to play fourth placed Newcastle Emlyn.
