Late Aberaeron try sinks St Davids

A LATE Aberaeron try earned them a narrow win over St Davids on Saturday (Jan 21).

Midway through the half Aberaeron scored their first try through Gethin Jenkins but the conversion was missed.

Shortly before the break the Saints hit back with a penalty from Adam Phillips to make it 3-5.

Dylan Walsh then went over for the home side to give them the lead but the conversion was missed. The Saints thought they had another try when captain Nathan Foster went over but the referee ruled that the ball had been held up.

It meant the Saints held an 8-5 lead at the break but they knew they would face a tough second half against their opponents.

Rhodri Jenkins missed a second half penalty for Aber as neither side was able to add to the scoring.

With five minutes to go two quick passes allowed Jenkins in and he touched down to put Aberaearon back into the lead. Although the conversion was missed, they now led 8-10 with time running out.

The Saints pushed for a late score but the visitors held on to secure their eighth win of the season and cement their grip on third place in the League 3 West A table.

On Saturday, January 28, Aberaeron travel to Neyland while St Davids visit Cardigan.
