Train derailment causes multiple service cancellations on Heart of Wales line

ALL train services between Shrewsbury and Llanwrtyd on the Heart of Wales line have been cancelled for the remainder of Tuesday, 27th August, following a derailment incident. The disruption affects a key section of the railway, which stretches 121 miles between Swansea and Shrewsbury.

The incident occurred just outside Llandrindod station when a set of wheels from the 05:22 Shrewsbury to Swansea service came off the tracks at low speed around 7:30 am, according to Network Rail. An investigation into the cause of the derailment is currently underway.

In response to the disruption, all services between Shrewsbury and Llanwrtyd have been suspended. Trains will continue to run between Swansea and Llanwrtyd, while replacement bus services will operate between Llanwrtyd and Craven Arms.

Network Rail issued a statement saying, “Trains from the south will shuttle between Swansea and Llanwrtyd, while buses will replace trains between Llanwrtyd and Craven Arms. The cause of the incident is being investigated—thank you for your patience. Please check before you travel.”

Transport for Wales (TfW) is working closely with Network Rail to manage the situation. Affected passengers are advised by the National Rail website that they can use their tickets on TfW services to Swansea via Cardiff Central at no additional cost.
