£450,000 Cannabis operation uncovered in heart of Welsh town

Police in Welshpool have uncovered a large-scale cannabis operation with a street value exceeding £450,000. Dyfed-Powys Police executed two warrants at the former Savers and County Times buildings on 2nd and 3rd September, where they discovered approximately 580 cannabis plants.

The police described both sites as “sophisticated set-ups”, equipped with numerous large knives, electronic devices, plants, and associated growing equipment. The scale and complexity of the operation highlight the significant investment and planning involved in cultivating such a large quantity of cannabis.

Following the raids, a 31-year-old man has been charged with cultivating cannabis and is scheduled to appear at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 4th September. Meanwhile, a second man, aged 27, was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Lovatt, who was involved in the operation, praised the collaborative efforts of the various departments within Dyfed-Powys Police. He stated, “This was a very successful operation, which saw excellent joint working between a number of departments within Dyfed-Powys Police. We are committed to making our force area hostile to those who deal illegal drugs, and our work over the two days has seen a significant amount of cannabis taken out of the supply chain.”

Members of the public who have concerns or information regarding the growth and supply of illegal drugs are encouraged to contact the police. They can do so by calling 101, emailing [email protected], messaging the force on social media, or using the online contact form available on the Dyfed-Powys Police website.
