Jam-packed fundraiser reaches £10,000 for charities

TWO FRIENDS have turned their passion for making homemade jams, chutneys and preserves into a wonderful way to help charities for 25 years!

Sue Jones, from Glanmule and Liz Farrinton from Forden, have been spreading the love, and the jam, by helping charities for over two decades and have raised over £10,000 for good causes in that time.

Each year, the ladies, sell several hundred of their delicious and popular homemade goods at events in Powys throughout November and December.

This year, the duo raised funds for the Wales Air Ambulance again and were delighted to have raised £1,190. The lifesaving cause is its main charity to fundraise for each year.

Sue said: “We support the Wales Air Ambulance because living where we do, we rely on it so much.

“We know that the air ambulance has been to the surrounding area several times and we know people personally who have benefitted from it.”

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every year ensure to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road.

Liz said: “We are delighted with the amount we have raised over the past 25 years. We attended four fairs last year, we both enjoy fundraising and are very pleased to support this much-needed service.”

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly improve survival and early recovery.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

“The ladies’ popular jams, chutneys and preserves have been a huge hit at fairs. Their hard work and commitment will ensure we continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most.

“Thank you both for playing a huge part in raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance, we really appreciate it. Thank you to those who support the ladies each year by buying the lovely produce. You have all played an important part in saving lives across Wales.”
