NEW speed limits are being introduced on Herefordshire’s roads.
The 30mph stretch of the B4532 through the village of Madley west of Hereford is being extended eastwards to include the entrance to the new ten-home Cherry Tree Mews development immediately north of the road.
Herefordshire Council’s notice of the decision said the cost of the change, put at around £10,000, would be met by the site’s developer, Bell Homes.
It added that there had been no objection to the change from police, local councillors or the public when it was consulted on last year.
The 30mph speed limit on the stretch of the A4110 through Canon Pyon is meanwhile being extended to include the village’s primary school half a mile to the north, in what is currently a 40mph zone.

This was requested by the area’s former MP Sir Bill Wiggin and drew no objections, Herefordshire Council’s decision notice said.
Measurements show the existing speed limit is generally being complied with, it t explained, adding that “with high-profile village nameplate signage, road roundels and repeater signage, vehicles would likely reduce their speed further to a more acceptable level”.
The council will bear the estimated £15,000 cost of the change.
Lastly the speed limit on a stretch of the A438 south of Kington between Winforton and the Welsh border at Rhydspence is being cut from 60 to 50mph.
Begun over two years ago and the behest of the local parish councillors, the consultation process on the proposed change again drew no objections.
The move will improve road safety and for vehicles joining the A438 from junctions and accesses, Herefordshire Council’s notice said. It will bear the £30,000 cost of the exercise.
