The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as Wales braces for high winds this weekend. This alert follows a series of heavy rain warnings earlier this week that led to travel disruptions and flooding across large parts of the country.
The new warning for strong winds covers a significant portion of Wales and southwest England, with potential disruptions anticipated on Sunday, 29 September. The alert will be in effect from 9:00 am until 11:59 pm.
During this period, the Met Office has cautioned that coastal routes, sea fronts, and coastal communities may experience the effects of spray and large waves. A spokesperson for the forecaster noted: “Travel disruption is expected with possible delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport. Bus and train services could also be affected, with some journeys taking longer. Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely. Some short-term loss of power and other services is also possible.”
In related news, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) issued a flood alert on Friday, 27 September, for areas surrounding the River Severn, extending from Newtown to the Severn-Vyrnwy Confluence. Residents in these areas have been warned to expect flooding of low-lying land and roads due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.
NRW is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
