Brecon schools proposals consultation extended

A CONSULTATION on plans to create a new primary school in South Powys by merging three existing schools has been extended, the county council has said.

Powys County Council is proposing to merge Mount Streets Infants School, Mount Street Junior School and Cradoc C.P. School to create a new primary school as part of Transforming Education plans for the Brecon catchment area.

The council is asking for views from the public on the proposal, which can now be provided until Wednesday, May 12.

Dr Caroline Turner, Chief Executive of Powys County Council, said: “One of the aims in our Strategy for Transforming Education in Powys is to improve the learner entitlement and experience for all our learners.

“We are also committed to providing world-class facilities that will our learners and teachers thrive and reach their potential.

“The plans for the Brecon catchment area will help us deliver our strategy and improve the education entitlement and experience for future learners.

“However, it is important that the people of these three school communities, as well as the wider area, have their say on these proposals. I would urge them to send their views to us so that they can be considered.”
