Carers picket Council over cuts

UnisonStrikeCARERS protesting at cuts to their pay and hours greeted members of Pembrokeshire County Council when they turned up to attend a full meeting of the Council in Haverfordwest today (Thursday October 17th).
Following their protest in Bridge Street Haverfordwest of Friday October 11th, the protesters represented 65 Council staff who face a significant reduction in their hours and – in some cases – their ability to claim in-work benefits, following a Council decision to slash services and employ agency staff.
The cuts follow the Council’s controversial pay and regrading scheme. The results of the pay exercise were that the lowest paid workers suffer devastating cuts in their hours, while top Council officers’ pay remained untouched and they were offered a tax break on their pensions.
