Church work finally completed

work completedAT LAST the improvement work at St Mary’s Church in Fishguard has finally been completed.

The outside wall has been re-pointed to prevent rain entering and all the blown plaster on the inside walls has been removed, the walls re-rendered and the entire church repainted.

Part of the interior has been reordered to create space for a variety of activities and this new space has been carpeted. The heating system has also been upgraded and the church is now dry, warm and bright.

During part of the work, services had to be transferred to the Town Hall and the congregation is to be thanked for their patience and adaptability.

All this work was possible due to help from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the All Churches Trust and the generosity of past members. A spokesman said “We are all delighted with the result”.

A special service will be held on December 1 at 10am to celebrate the work being finished, when Goodwick Community Brass Band will play and as many people as possible can admire the new work and help give thanks for this major achievement in the life of St. Mary’s in Fishguard.
