THE CYNNYDD PROJECT, a three-year project aiming to support Ceredigion’s young people who are most at risk of disengaging with education, began in June.
The Cynnydd Project aims to support young people aged between 11 and 24 years of age, providing intensive interventions to improve their attendance at school, attainment and behaviour. The project will also assist young people into work through a variety of employer engagement programmes which have been designed with the local labour market firmly in mind.
Cabinet Member for Learning Services, Children and Young People’s Partnership, Councillor Hag Harris, said: “Cynnydd will be invaluable to provide young people with the skills and qualifications to gain employment locally, which will mean that our young people will not be forced to look further afield for employment. I am also grateful for the cooperation of local employers which, I’m sure, will be of immeasurable benefit to the young people of Ceredigion.”
The introduction of the Cynnydd project is closely aligned with key elements of the Welsh Government’s national policy aiming to reduce the number of young people who are not in education, employment or training (known as NEET) in Wales.
The project has been financed by the European Social Fund and will be delivered by Ceredigion County Council across all local secondary schools from June 2016 until February 2019.
