Fishguard RNLI lifeboats launch to rescue drifting dory

A SMALL 12-foot fishing dory with two male persons aboard and whose engine had failed and was drifting towards rocks resulted in both Fishguard RNLI lifeboats launching on Monday, May 9.

The inshore lifeboat launched at 3.20pm shortly followed by the all-weather lifeboat, both with a full complement of volunteer crew.

The drifting dory was positioned to the northern side of Newport Bay and the ILB was on scene at 3.50pm and took the small boat and its two crew under tow, escorted by the ALB, to Newport Parrog. The lifeboat crew helped to bail out the fishing boat and were successful in starting their engine again.

The ILB left the scene at 4.20pm once the fishing boat and crew were safely ashore and both lifeboats returned to their Fishguard harbour base arriving at 4.40pm.
