TRANSITION TYWI TRANSNEWID, the Transition Town group for Llandeilo, Llandovery and the upper Tywi valley, held a successful clothes swishing event in Llandovery YMCA, Market Square, on Saturday (Oct 29).
People brought along clothes in good condition but no longer wanted, and took away, for free, whatever they liked from items others brought along. Books, CDs and DVDs were also exchanged.
The group raised £76.81, all from the £1 entry and 50p refreshments. The money will be used to hold events promoting lifestyles with low environmental impact. Transition Tywi has working groups in permaculture – food production from self-sustaining ecosystems – and in the promotion of local produce, woodland conservation and woodfuel, and energy and transport. Recent events include the film ‘This Changes Everything’, from the Naomi Klein book of the same name, and a talk by Salena Walker on her One Planet Development project.
