Kids create Tick-Tock the croc

Screen Shot 2016-09-05 at 11.46.27THOSE of you who are familiar with the tale of Peter Pan will know that Captain Hook gets swallowed up by the crocodile in the end. The croc is Hook’s worse nightmare and whenever he hears the tick tock of the clock the croc had swallowed, he knows he is near.

Thanks to the Police and Crime Commissioner and some grant funding, the lost boys and lost girls of Llwynhendy are safe from Captain Hook. The grant was given to engage with the community of Llwynhendy/ Dafen using art and technology activities for children aged five to 11.

The project was aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour over the school holidays as well as building and engaging relations with the community. Recyclable material was used during the activities to highlight the negative impact of fly tipping. A giant crocodile and dream tree was created by the children out of materials including old tyres and old trainers.

Taking part in the event were local children, families, the police, SPLAT Cymru, Ty Enfys and Cllr Sharen Davies. There were SPLAT Camps held at various locations over two weeks with up to 30 children attending. Locations included Trallwm Hall, Ty Enfys and Dafen Hall.

County Councillor Sharen Davies said: “I thoroughly enjoyed spending two weeks with the children and families – we had so much fun! I would like to thank PCSO Natalie Rees, PCSO Natalie Williams, PCSO Sam Bradshaw, Sharan Condon (Ty Enfys), James (SPLAT Cymru) and all the families and children who participated in the CAMPS. I am looking forward to next year.”
