Parc y Scarlets: Start and Finish of the half marathon

LLANELLI’s half marathon has stopped taking entrants as speedy sign-ups fill spaces ahead of schedule.

The 13.1-mile half marathon, waterside race will take place on March 13 and will see 1,500 athletes run from Parc y Scarlets rugby stadium to the start of the Millennium Coastal Path and back.

The long distance event is now one of the fastest growing in Wales and is part of many runner’s annual schedules including those training for the Great Welsh Marathon.

The run’s website described the run: “This half marathon event takes the runners along possibly one of the most picturesque parts of the UK coastline. It is flat and fast and is ideal for all standards of runner from the athlete chasing a PB or for the beginner wanting to try a 13.1 mile run for the first time.”

Organiser Tim Gasser said: “It’s been great to see all the places go so quickly and I just hope that all those who were planning to run have not been left disappointed,”

“We will be looking to expand the field in coming years. It’s excellent to see so many people, particularly local runners signing up and we’ll be hoping for another strong race this year after the course record was broken last year.”

On the Sunday of the run other events will be taking place for the families of competitors as well as other entertainment.

The A484 road will be closed temporarily on the day from the Trostre/Parc Pemberton roundabout to Berwick roundabout while the race is being ran.

Traffic diversions will be in place, with all runners being advised to arrive well before 8.30am.

Spaces are still available for the Great Welsh Marathon & Half Marathon which is just over a month after on April 18, so anybody looking to complete one within the first half of 2016 can still do so.
