Met Office upgrades storm Herminia weather warning as ‘intense showers’ target Wales

The Met Office has upgraded its weather warning as “intense showers” are set to drench parts of Wales, extending the yellow warning for rain until 10pm on Tuesday.

The revised warning states: “On top of the widespread 20-30mm of rain, and with some places seeing as much as 40mm, a further 20-30mm, and very isolated totals of 50-60mm, are expected through Monday and Tuesday, before rain and showers finally begin to ease.”

Forecasters warn that the heavy downpours could lead to hazardous driving conditions, with spray and flooding potentially causing road closures. Bus and train services are also likely to be affected, resulting in longer journey times. Additionally, there is a possibility of flooding in some properties.

The Met Office’s forecast for Wales on Monday predicts: “Frequent showers or longer periods of rain with heavy and thundery downpours possible, and a risk of localised flooding in places. Windy for all and very windy in coastal areas with severe gales possible. Maximum temperature 7°C.

“Further rain at times this evening and overnight. Staying windy in southern coastal regions with gales on exposed coasts but winds easing elsewhere. A relatively mild and frost-free night. Minimum temperature 4°C.”

While the outlook remains unsettled for the start of the week, there is some hope for improved conditions towards the end of the week.
