THIS DECEMBER, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) is bringing a festive twist to fire and safety awareness with the launch of #SafetyActually—a Christmas campaign inspired by the well-known Christmas film, ‘Love Actually’, designed to help keep you and your loved ones safe this festive season.
Christmas is coming, bringing with it darker nights, colder temperatures, and a host of seasonal challenges. With the cost of living being a top concern for many, we are urging you to consider alternative ways of heating and lighting your homes safely. Many may be turning to portable heaters, candles, or festive lights, all of which can come with added risks. We want to help you, and your family stay safe this Christmas because #SafetyActually is all around us!
Head of Community Safety Steven Davies said: “We know that families across Mid and West Wales will be preparing for a busy and joyful Christmas.
“And we hope that by using a much-loved film as the backdrop for our campaign, we can make our safety messages relatable and easy to remember. Our goal is to keep safety front of mind, so families can enjoy a worry-free festive season.”
Throughout the month of December, MAWWFRS will be recreating iconic moments from “Love Actually” with a safety message, offering practical tips on kitchen safety, fire prevention, winter driving, tips and advice, all wrapped up in festive fun. From “lighting up the season” safely to ensuring your home is fire-safe, #SafetyActually is your go-to source for essential Christmas safety advice.
Steven continued: “We encourage everyone to check their homes are safe and secure against the challenges that winter months bring, we offer free Safe and Well visits, these home safety checks provide vital advice and equipment like smoke alarms and advice, absolutely free of charge.”
Winter also brings additional risks, including freezing temperatures, icy roads, and reduced visibility. It’s more important than ever to check that your smoke alarms are working, your vehicles are roadworthy, and your chimneys and electrical appliances are in good condition.
Peter Greenslade, Corporate Head of Community Risk Management, emphasised: “Winter months bring increased safety hazards at home and on the roads.
“Simple actions like checking your alarms, clearing your driveway, ensuring your flues and chimneys are swept, using the correct fuel for woodburning stoves / open fires and getting you heating and cooking appliances serviced properly can make a huge difference.
“Staying informed and prepared can help us all enjoy a safer winter.”
