IN a galactic tribute, the Royal Mint has introduced its latest collection of Star Wars coins and bullion bars, featuring the iconic Millennium Falcon emblazoned on a 50p coin. This release follows the success of the initial Star Wars coin series, with the second series focusing on the franchise’s renowned vehicles.
The coin showcases a striking silhouette of the Millennium Falcon alongside the Rebel Alliance Starbird symbol, ingeniously designed to reveal hidden symbols as light dances upon it. This artistic feature adds a captivating touch for collectors and fans alike.
Joining the Millennium Falcon in the coin lineup are depictions of other beloved vessels from the Star Wars universe, including the TIE Fighter, X-Wing, and Death Star II, set to launch in 2024.
Rebecca Morgan, the director of commemorative coins at the Royal Mint, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to mark the return of the Star Wars franchise to numismatics with a series dedicated to its iconic vehicles. Our aim is to inspire both new and seasoned coin collectors worldwide and to ignite the imaginations of Star Wars enthusiasts.”
Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to acquire Royal Mint bullion bars inspired by the Star Wars galaxy. These bars, available in fine gold and silver editions, feature designs inspired by legendary characters like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo.
Andrew Dickey, the director of precious metals at the Royal Mint, emphasised the significance of this launch, remarking, “The introduction of Star Wars bullion bars by the Royal Mint is particularly noteworthy, as it marks the first time that iconic characters from the Skywalker Saga have graced bullion bars.”
The eagerly anticipated Millennium Falcon coin, offered in both 50p and ounce ranges, will be accessible for purchase on the Royal Mint’s website starting at 9 am on Monday, March 18. Customers can also secure the entire collection of four coins on the same day, with deliveries scheduled as each coin in the series is released.
Prices for these collectibles vary, starting from £11 for a brilliant, uncirculated Millennium Falcon 50p coin and £20 for a colorized version, while the gold proof coin commands a value of £2,770. Furthermore, the launch of the Star Wars bullion bars is set to coincide with Star Wars Day on May 4, with prices dependent on live precious metal rates.
