MAES GLAS Caravan Park in Sarnau has become the latest holiday park in Ceredigion to have a life-saving defibrillator on site.
Welsh Hearts Calonnau Cymru were pleased to have been able to support Tim and his family, who run the caravan park, in acquiring a defibrillator.
The life-saving equipment will be kept in a cabinet on the roadside exterior wall to the shop of the caravan park, meaning not only can the visitors of the park feel safe in the knowledge that a defibrillator is on-site, but the wider community can too.
Christopher Hill, the son of the caravan park owner Tim, is largely to thank for the defibrillator. In May, Chris took on the Aberystwyth Sportive Cycle Challenge – a 46 mile route raising funds through sponsorship.
Meinir Lewis, Fundraising Manager for Mid and West Wales, said: “Welsh Hearts are thrilled to have placed a defibrillator at Maes Glas Caravan Park. We’re so thankful to Chris, Tim and all family and friends who supported the venture of getting a defibrillator on site! The defibrillator is situated on a busy roadside so it’s a perfect spot for it to be kept.”
Welsh Hearts will also be providing CPR and defibrillator training to anyone in the area who wish to learn. The training will be held at Sarnau Village Hall on September 15 at 6.45pm. Tim Hill said: “The training is open to everyone in the wider community and is completely free. We hope that lots of people will come and learn.”
Founded in 2013 by Sharon Owen, Welsh Hearts is saving lives across Wales. Recently, it has been focusing on placing defibrillators in communities and schools through-out Wales and holding free CPR training sessions to the public.
Welsh Hearts have trained over 12,500 people in CPR and have placed 427 defibrillators across communities in Wales. The aim of this is to drastically improve the chances of those that have cardiac arrests outside of hospital, where the first few minutes are absolutely crucial in saving their lives.
