Abercynon man sentenced to nearly five years

DEAN WILLIAMS, 29, from Abercynon, has been jailed for four years and eight months after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Appearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday (Jan 24), Williams was sentenced to four years and eight months for sexual activity with a child. He also received a 22-month sentence for making an indecent image of a child, with both sentences to run concurrently.

The court heard that the assault took place in a park in Caerphilly in August 2022. Williams, who was 26 at the time, had contacted the then 13-year-old victim via Snapchat before arranging to meet her.

T/Detective Sergeant Michael Coles, the investigating officer, praised the victim’s courage in coming forward. He said: “I would like to thank the victim for their bravery throughout the investigation and court process.

“By coming forward, they have helped put a callous and dangerous man behind bars. Dean Williams targeted a young and vulnerable girl for his own sexual gratification, and we welcome the sentence imposed on him.

“I also hope this outcome shows other victims of sexual offences that they will be listened to, believed, and respected.”

Victims of sexual offences can access support through Gwent Police and partner agencies, which offer guidance throughout the process. More information is available on the Gwent Police website: www.gwent.police.uk.

Williams will remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
