LHH appointed as outplacement partner for Tata Steel UK

LHH, a leading integrated talent solutions provider and global business unit of the Adecco Group, today announced it has been appointed by Tata Steel as its outplacement partner to support the company’s employees through its transition to low CO2 steelmaking.

Outplacement is a service paid for by an employer to support staff affected by redundancy. It gives impacted employees access to resources and a support network to help them successfully transition to the next stage of their career. Once the contract is signed, the service and outcomes are established to work solely, and independently for the benefit of employees.

To support employees who are directly impacted by the move towards low CO2 steelmaking, Tata Steel UK, and the Transition Board, put out a tender and LHH was appointed following a competitive process.

Chris Jaques, Chief HR Officer, Tata Steel UK said: “The review team was really impressed by the experience and levels of support that LHH can offer, which will be a vital part of the transition process. We want to ensure all affected employees are given the support needed to help them through this transition.”

Through the outplacement programme, affected staff will have access to workshops around how best to conduct a job search, structural support on CV writing and interview prep, as well as sessions for those looking to embark on retirement. These sessions will be directly tailored for departments and their roles, as well as individual needs and skillsets that sit within these teams. Portals will also be set up, enabling staff to access resources and workshops digitally, to complement in-person support on the ground.

For certain roles, one-to-one coaching will also be made available. Through this programme, employees will gain a dedicated expert who will advise on job applications and help to identify the types of roles they might want to do next.

LHH will have an immediate presence ‘on the ground’ at Port Talbot to start departmental outplacement awareness sessions to give staff the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the support they can access. LHH experts will also be available to affected employees in other parts of Tata Steel UK’s operations.

Initial sessions will concentrate on providing leaders with the right information to drive further awareness within the company of the resources and expert advice that will be made available to their teams. Full employee engagement kits will also be shared with managers to support continuous internal communications throughout the course of the programme.

More informal sessions will also take place across the business, to allow staff to drop in, and ask any questions that they may have. Set workshops will also be established to deliver more in-depth discussions to the wider workforce about the different layers of support on-hand over the coming weeks.

JC Townend, CEO, LHH said: “We have more than 50 years’ experience successfully helping businesses through transition periods, and helping impacted employees develop their best opportunities for moving forward with new careers or retirement.

“We are ready to take on the important role of supporting impacted employees at Tata Steel UK. We will have an outstanding team on the ground, getting to know staff on an intimate level, to ensure we can best meet their needs through workshops, skills building and one-to-one coaching support.

“Our goal is to support positive outcomes for staff through our support and by establishing connections to new jobs in the local market, to help people continue their careers with clarity and peace of mind.”
