‘Being Evel for a Good Cause’ – RIDE Capital Knievel charity bikers take on capital challenge to raise money for Macmillan

PEOPLE have an opportunity to spot more than 50 Evel Knievel cape-wearing bikers on Welsh roads on Sunday 5 June.

The charity bikers will be heading from Cardiff to Wrexham on the final day of their five-day, 1200-mile charity ride, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support to help people living with cancer.

The RIDE Capital Knievels journey begins in Wrexham on Wednesday 1 June with the bikers visiting Edinburgh, London, and Cardiff, before returning to Wrexham in the early evening on Sunday 5 June.

Bikers from all over the United Kingdom travel to Wrexham to join in with the charity ride. All entrants raise individual sponsorship ahead of the event as a strict condition of entry and fund their own costs in completing the five-day event with their motorcycle. The event itself is the current world record for the ‘Largest gathering of people dressed as Evel Knievel’.

The RIDE Capital Knievels have broken their initial £20,000 fundraising target but are still looking to increase their final total. Donations to the charity bikers can be made on their JustGiving page:  RIDE Cymru Knievels is fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support

Jason Lewis from Corwen, who founded and organises the charity ride, said: “The annual event continues to deliver its aim of smiles, miles, and considerable funds raised by the good people the event attracts, to help Macmillan continue their good work for people who find themselves in a difficult place.”

Speaking about the fundraiser, Richard Pugh, Head of Services for Macmillan in Wales, said: “We are so grateful to Jason and all the RIDE Capital Knievels for riding for Macmillan. They are such a great sight to see but also the money they raise helps us to support people living with cancer, many of whom need Macmillan’s support now, more than ever.”
