RSPB Cymru appeal for local volunteers to help with their vital pin badge collections

RSPB Cymru is looking for volunteers across Wales that have a few hours to spare each month to help their cause.

As a vital fundraiser for the conservation charity, pin badge collection volunteers play an important role in placing and checking on charity pin badge boxes in places like cafés, garden centres and shops in their local area.

Last year Covid-19 sent shock waves through the RSPB’s pin badge scheme, and in some areas reduced donations by around 70% on the previous year’s income, affecting the charity’s work to save nature.

This year, RSPB Cymru are looking to rebuild the scheme having sadly lost valued volunteers and pin badge box placements in the local area as a result of the pandemic. The role involves restocking boxes with their beautiful range of enamel wildlife pin badges and banking donations. It is really flexible, and works around people’s lifestyles, be that studying, working or retirement.

Daniel Suge, RSPB Cymru’s Community Fundraiser said: “Help is needed to overcome the nature and climate emergency and I’ve always seen our volunteers as the key to reaching our goals. By working with volunteers and communities, we are able to make a bigger, more significant impact for nature and the environment.”

Brian Thomas, Pin Badge Volunteer  from Merthyr Tydfil, said: “Although my membership contributes to RSPB’s work, I’ve always thought that I could be doing more to aid the cause. When I saw that they were looking for people to volunteer and how vital fundraising is for society, I had to get involved.”

Daniel added: “If you’d like to join our brilliant team of volunteers, then please contact the RSPB Cymru Community Fundraising team at [email protected] and your local fundraiser will be in touch.”
