SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has called for the Welsh Government to ensure charities like Marie Curie receive proper funding.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Health Minister joined fellow members at a drop in event organised by the charity at the Senedd in Cardiff, which highlighted the importance of palliative care.
He said: “it was great to meet up with representatives of Marie Curie Cymru at the Senedd and catch up on their news and hear more about the vital work they continue to carry out.
“I am a great supporter of this charity and always back their annual Great Daffodil Appeal which is held every year in March, to raise much needed funds.
“Every donation means that when the time comes, Marie Curie can be there for people and their loved ones when they need it most.
“However, they do need support all year round and I believe politicians need to make proper funding a priority. Quality palliative care is absolutely essential, to ensure people have dignity at the end of their lives.”
Marie Curie is the largest independent provider of end of life care and the largest charitable provider of hospice care beds in Wales.
As well as nursing and expert hospice care there are Companion volunteers and Marie Cure charity shops across the country.
The charity is also the largest charitable founder of research work to improve end of life care and has around 150 Marie Curie Nurses working in Wales, caring for around 2,400 terminally ill people and their families in their homes each year.
