Derelict hotel destroyed in North Wales blaze

A DERELICT former hotel in Flintshire has been completely destroyed after a massive fire broke out, prompting a major emergency response. Crews from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the former Elms Hotel on Sealand Road at around 8:30pm on Tuesday (Nov 26).

The fire reportedly started around 7:00pm, with flames seen leaping from the abandoned building. As a precaution, Sealand Road was closed between Seahill Road and Western Avenue and remained shut on Wednesday morning as firefighters continued to extinguish the blaze.

Residents urged to stay indoors

Authorities advised nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed due to the significant amount of smoke billowing from the site. In an early update, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We’re currently in attendance at a fire in Sealand Road in Flintshire. Please avoid the area while we deal with the incident. If you live nearby, we’re advising you to close windows and doors as a precaution. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Major damage reported

By Wednesday morning, the fire service confirmed that the derelict hotel had been completely destroyed, suffering “100% damage.” While the blaze was scaled down at approximately 3:00am, two fire engines remained at the scene, supported by a high-volume pump, and were expected to stay throughout the day.

Sealand Road also remained closed to ensure public safety as crews managed the aftermath of the fire.
