Schoolboy dies suddenly as support offered to pupils and staff

A Year 9 pupil at Cardiff High School has tragically passed away, prompting the school to offer support to affected students and staff. In a letter to parents and carers today, headteacher Stephen Jones expressed his condolences and announced that resources are being made available to help the school community cope with the loss.

The student, named as Zac Trevett, is understood to have passed away suddenly on Sunday night, November 10. Mr Jones conveyed the school’s sympathy to Zac’s family during this difficult time, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are very much with Zac’s family at this sad time.”

Students in Zac’s year group were informed of the news earlier today. Recognising the impact this may have on them, Mr Jones noted that Cardiff High is providing bereavement support, with guidance information on grief and bereavement also available on the school’s website.

In his letter, Mr Jones shared the difficult message with parents and carers: “I am writing to inform you that your child’s form tutor has had the sad task of informing the class of the sudden death of a pupil in Year 9 – Zac Trevett.”

He continued, “When someone dies, it is normal for their friends and family to experience a range of different feelings like sadness, anger and confusion. The pupils have been advised that staff are available to support them should the need arise, and I will also place guidance information relating to grief and bereavement on the school website.”

The school community is encouraged to come together in support of one another during this tragic time. Bereavement support remains available for any student who may need it.
