ADELE has left her fans devastated with the news that she will be stepping away from the music industry for an extended period, following the completion of her recent performances in Munich. The singer, who has just concluded her series of shows in a specially-designed portable stadium in the German city, revealed the news to her audience during her final performance.
Speaking directly to her fans, Adele, 36, shared, “I’ve got 10 shows to do, but after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time, and I will hold you dear in my heart.” This announcement came as a shock, especially after her earlier promises of continuing her musical journey following a brief hiatus.
Adele, who is recently engaged to sports agent Rich Paul, is set to finish her interrupted residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. However, she has made it clear that after these remaining shows, she has no immediate plans to continue performing. In an interview with German public broadcaster ZDF in July, Adele disclosed her future intentions: “I want a big break after this, and I think I want to do other creative things. Just for a little while.”
Adele’s residency at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas was originally scheduled to begin in January 2022. However, the show was abruptly cancelled just one day before the opening night, leaving fans disappointed and out of pocket, having already spent thousands on flights, accommodation, and tickets. The cancellation was attributed to members of her team contracting Covid, and later, Adele herself had to cancel an additional 10 shows due to illness.
Reflecting on the situation at the start of her Munich stint, Adele told her audience: “I’ve been calm all week to the point my friends were worried something was wrong. There was that s**t show of me cancelling Vegas. I wouldn’t be here if that didn’t happen – I couldn’t carry on if I’d done a show I didn’t believe in.”
In response to the postponement of her shows, Adele took to Instagram to apologise to her fans, explaining: “Sadly, I have to take a beat and pause my Vegas residency. I was sick at the end of the last leg and all through the break. I hadn’t quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before shows resumed and now I’m sick again, and unfortunately, it’s taken a toll on my voice. And so, on doctor’s orders, I’ve had to rest thoroughly. The remaining five weekends of this leg are being postponed to a later date. We are already working out the details, and you will be sent the information asap.”
Adele has confirmed that her Las Vegas residency will now extend until 23rd November this year. In an interview with Elle magazine, she described the postponement of the start date as the “worst moment” of her career. She elaborated on the issues that led to the delay: “The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment. It was the worst moment in my career by far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating.”
As Adele prepares to bid farewell to the stage for the foreseeable future, her fans are left to cherish the memories of her recent performances, uncertain when they will see the beloved singer return to the spotlight.
