Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to return to her hometown of Swansea to star in the upcoming Amazon Prime revenge thriller, Kill Jackie. Based on the novel The Price You Pay by Nick Harkaway, writing under the pseudonym Aidan Truhen, the eight-part series will begin filming in March, with locations including Swansea, Bilbao, Lisbon, and London.
Zeta-Jones, 55, will take on the lead role of Jackie Price, described by Amazon Prime as an extravagant jet-setter attempting to remain anonymous after fleeing a “dangerous past as an international cocaine dealer”. In addition to starring in the series, the Chicago actress will also serve as an executive producer.
Speaking about the project, Zeta-Jones expressed her excitement, stating she is “thrilled” to be involved both behind and in front of the camera. She added that she looks forward to exploring a female-driven storyline that “encompasses empowerment, identity, and redemption”.
The series, co-produced by Fremantle and Steel Springs Pictures, is expected to be released in 2026, though an official date has yet to be confirmed. The production will be helmed by Killing Eve director Damon Thomas, with Gangs of London’s Tom Butterworth as writer and showrunner. Butterworth remarked that their goal is to transform Harkaway’s novel into something “equally funny, dark, crazed, and unique, or die trying”.
Zeta-Jones, originally from the Mumbles, has enjoyed a highly successful career, with notable roles in Chicago (2002), The Legend of Zorro (2005), and more recently, Netflix’s Wednesday (2022), where she played Morticia Addams. Recognised for her contributions to the film industry and charity work, she was awarded a CBE in 2011.
The actress, who owns properties across the globe alongside her husband, Michael Douglas, maintains strong ties to Wales. In April 2024, she delighted fans by posting a photo of a rainbow over the Mumbles on Instagram, sparking excitement among her Welsh followers.
With Kill Jackie set to bring her back to familiar surroundings, anticipation is building for what promises to be a thrilling new addition to Zeta-Jones’ impressive filmography.
