Wynne Evans dropped from Strictly Live Tour following ‘inappropriate’ comment

BBC presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has reportedly been removed from the show’s UK tour after making an “inappropriate and unacceptable” remark during the live tour launch.

The Sun reports that the BBC Wales DJ has been “sacked” from the tour following repeated warnings about his behaviour. A source told the publication: “He’s had repeated warnings about his behaviour and was told to rein it in. He’s not been taking it in, and in this day and age, the BBC has to be seen taking action and safeguarding everyone.”

The source added that Evans has received significant support from backstage dancers, describing his removal as a “sad” ending for the tour. They continued: “He’s had a tough time with the death of his brother, and people should give him some slack. He is going to take this time off to do some self-reflection. He has a lot of support from many of the backstage dancers. It’s been a really sad ending to what has been a really fun tour.”

On Sunday, news emerged that the 52-year-old had made the remark to a woman in a video filmed during the launch event on 16 January. It was reported that show producers had issued him a warning over the comment.

In a statement, Evans apologised, saying: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”

A spokesperson for the Strictly live tour and BBC Studios also responded, stating: “We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints. We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour.”

Evans’ departure marks an unfortunate turn in what has otherwise been a highly enjoyable tour for both the cast and audiences.
