A significant water main burst in Fairwater, Cardiff, has led to the closure of ten local schools, affecting families and residents across several neighbourhoods. The areas hit hardest by the disruption include Pentrebane, Ely, and Danescourt.
Welsh Water has warned that people in these areas may experience low water pressure or a complete loss of their water supply. The company has apologised for the inconvenience caused and confirmed that engineers are working to resolve the issue. However, they have not yet provided an estimated time for when normal service will resume.
The schools that have been forced to close due to the ongoing water shortage are as follows:
- Ysgol Gymraeg Coed y Gof
- Pentrebane Primary
- Holy Family RC Primary in Pentrebane
- Danescourt Primary
- Ysgol Plasmawr
- Mary Immaculate High School
- Cardiff West High School
- St Francis RC Primary in Ely
- Windsor Clive Primary School in Ely
- Fairwater Primary School
Lee MacGregor from Welsh Water said: “We are messaging customers who may have no water or low pressure and will be continuing to keep everyone informed.” He also confirmed that the company is setting up bottled water stations in the affected areas and delivering supplies to customers registered on their priority service list.
Cardiff Council has assured parents that they have been contacted directly by the affected schools regarding the closures and will be kept updated as the situation progresses.
For now, residents and school staff are left waiting for further updates as efforts continue to restore water to the impacted areas.
