A LAMPETER man appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 1) to face the charges of threatening to kill and stalking his ex-partner of ten years.
Judge Geraint Walters sentenced Sebastian Stoian to 12 months for threatening to kill, 6 months for stalking, and a 5 year restraining order against the complainant.
Stoian of Temple Terrace, who arrived in the UK in 2019 with his ex-partner, their daughter, and step-daughter, initially pleaded not guilty on Aug 24, 2024.
However, on Oct 3, 2024 the 45-year-old entered guilty pleas at Llanelli Magistrates Court, when he was charged with two offences.
Swansea Crown Court heard how, on Aug 22, 2024, the complainant was given a threatening sealed envelope by Stoian. After, Stoian called the complainant saying, “I know where you live, I can come anytime,” and continued to express his anger at her. Stoian continued to call the complainant and their daughter another thirty times that evening.
As the night, and phone calls progressed, Stoian threatened that “he would pay a homeless person £50 to kill the complainant and break all her windows.” The complainant contacted the police at 9:30pm on Aug 22, 2024, when she heard Stoian knock on her door, fearing her and her daughters’ lives.
Stoian was arrested at 12:20am Aug 23, 2024. He was interviewed on Aug 24, 2024 in which he stated “I simply contacted the complainant to speak to my daughter”, and his knowledge of his ex-partners address was due to “receiving a text from a water company which they pay their bills from.”
Sadly, the complainant in a statement remarked that Stoian “has threatened to kill me and himself, he doesn’t care that his daughter will become an orphan.”
Defence counsel, Caitlin Brazel, argued for a leaning of Stoian’s sentencing due to his actions being “entirely out of character for him,” and showing his clear remorse throughout the ordeal.
Judge Geraint Walters remarked that, “you were emotionally unstable due to the breakdown of the relationship. I don’t consider you a person incapable of being rehabilitated.”
