A PERSON has tragically died after being struck by a train near Wildmill station in Bridgend, it has been confirmed by British Transport Police (BTP). Emergency services were called to the scene late on Saturday night in response to reports of an incident on the tracks.
Paramedics arrived alongside BTP officers, but despite their efforts, the individual was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death as they work to uncover what led to this tragic event.
A spokeswoman for BTP stated: “We were called to an area of the line close to Wildmill station at around 11:15 pm on Saturday, 14th September, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances behind the person’s death.”
This incident follows a separate, earlier occurrence on the same day in Rhondda Cynon Taf, where a person sustained “life-changing” injuries after being hit by a train. Emergency services responded to the incident, which resulted in the closure of all lines between Penrhiwceiber and Aberdare from 5 pm to 7 pm as they carried out necessary work.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings near railway lines, especially as investigations into these incidents continue. Further information regarding these incidents is expected to be released as BTP progresses with its inquiries.
