Police officer guilty of sexually abusing girl

John Stringer, 42, a Gwent police officer, has been found guilty at Cardiff Crown Court of sexually abusing a girl under the age of 13.

The charges include two counts of sexual assault by touching, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and making the victim watch a sexual act.

The jury returned a majority verdict of 10 to 2 after hearing distressing details of the abuse, which occurred between 2019 and 2021. Stringer has been remanded into custody and will be sentenced on October 28.

This case has deeply affected the local community and Gwent Police, where Stringer had been suspended from duty following the allegations.
