Evans pledges support to Fairbourne

CHARLIE EVANS, Welsh Conservative candidate for Dwyfor Meirionnydd at the Senedd Election, has pledged his support to the village of Fairbourne in light of negative press reports over the last few years among concerns of rising sea levels.

Charlie Evans said, “Fairbourne has been on the receiving end of a lot of negative press attention in recent years over the issue of the sea levels.

“The sensationalist headlines have caused ill-feeling among the local community and has made local people feel like nobody is listening to them or speaking up for them.

“And whilst it is sensible to plan for all eventualities, I am committed to telling those positive news stories, Fairbourne has a vibrant community and its people play an important role in the life of Dwyfor Meirionnydd.

“Whether that’s the Fairbourne Railway and the volunteers who sustain it; Skye and her efforts to ban plastic toys in kids magazines and the work of the Fairbourne Litter Pickers or the local corner shop.

“This is a community that feels forgotten about by the powers that be in Caernarfon and Gwynedd County Council. It feels written-off despite limited flooding incidents.

“So whilst we must be mindful and aware of the situation of the sea levels, now is the time to have that broader conversation again without that judgement or the stereotyping that often goes on. I want to hear directly from local people.”

Mr Evans is encouraging local people to complete his survey and to attend and is holding a virtual public meeting on Friday 9th April at 7pm over Zoom. Details of which can be found HERE
