Fairer economy pledge from Greens

Hoping for Green voice in Senedd: Alice Hooker-Stroud

THE WALES Green Party has unveiled its main policies for the Assembly elections in May.

The pledges, which include zero tuition fees for Welsh students studying in Wales, and a programme of carbon-neutral house building, were part of plans to create ‘a fairer economy and vibrant communities,’ according to Welsh leader Alice Hooker-Stroud.

The key policy announcements included:

  • Protecting frontline public services
  • Generating energy, income and jobs with community and publicly owned renewables
  • Ending the programme of school closures
  • Prioritising no tuition fees for Welsh students studying in Wales
  • Building 12,000 new houses per year to carbon-neutral standards
  • Increasing the amount of social housing
  • Enacting a 10-year plan to insulate homes and make them more energy efficient
  • Putting a greater emphasis on public health
  • Keeping the NHS public

Ms Hooker-Stroud said: “Across the UK and further afield, we see the positive benefits that the Green Party have made in councils, parliaments and assemblies.

“It’s time to challenge this stale government in Wales and shake up the Senedd.”
