Janet Finch-Saunders on need to support Aberconwy’s hospitality and tourism sectors

THE Welsh Conservative candidate for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders – has made clear her commitment to help the region’s hospitality and tourism sectors to build back better, after a new Welsh Labour leaflet stated that the constituency was “… over reliant on the hospitality sector for work”.

Mrs Finch-Saunders has actively worked to assist and keep hundreds of entrepreneurs updated throughout the pandemic. Over recent months, she has convened a series of large-scale digital roundtables to ensure that the concerns of local businesses were heard in Cardiff Bay. These meetings often resulted in robust challenges of the Welsh Government’s Minister for Economy.

Commenting on her pledge to stand with the hospitality and tourism sector, Mrs Finch-Saunders said:

“These pillars of the North Wales economy are anxious to play their part in helping the nation’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. They have worked valiantly throughout this challenging period to keep staff on the books, and many now wish to provide training opportunities as we look to reopen.

“To diminish the pivotal role that these sectors play in providing flexible and rewarding work is a mistake. That this follows a lack of clarity from Welsh Labour’s leadership throughout the pandemic shows just how out of touch that party remains. Wales deserves better, and I ask the Welsh Labour candidate to withdraw this piece of literature which has greatly offended my hospitality vendors.

“As we now look forward, I pledge to continue my hard work for these sectors which have been deeply wounded by the recent lockdowns. This is why the Welsh Conservatives would back date business support to 1 April for any retail, hospitality, leisure and tourism businesses that have been closed since that date and during the election period.”
