NEIL HAMILTON, MS for Mid & West Wales, and Leader of UKIP Wales has welcomed news of additional funds for projects in his Region.
Mr Hamilton, a member of the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs committee said he was pleased to see schemes receiving a share of almost £2m from the Welsh Government.
He said: “I am delighted to see projects in my areas receiving a share of £1,946,849 for improvements to community-based facilities through the Community Facilities Programme.
“As we all learn to cope with the continuing coronavirus pandemic an increasing number of people are getting more involved with projects within their communities and any financial assistance is most welcome.
“In these difficult and challenging times we need to work together and help each other so projects involving the community are very important.
“Work on all these projects will lead to improved facilities for the community and also help boost local well-being and support to the most vulnerable.”
Among the projects receiving funds is Ieuenctid Tysul Youth, Ceredigion, who will get £7,500 towards the cost of refurbishing the kitchen at the youth centre to meet food hygiene standards.
Hafod Ceiri, in Gwynedd, will receive £25,000 towards the cost of renovating and extending a Grade 2 listed Chapel to include a heritage centre, enterprise and business workshops, gallery, café and multi-use space including place of worship.
Llansaint Welfare Hall, Carmarthenshire will also be given an additional £35,000 to extend and refurbish the welfare hall. These additional costs will be incurred due to the unexpected rise in costs of materials due to Covid.
The Communities Facilities Programme funds projects up to a maximum of £250,000, or up to £25,000 for smaller grants.
It helps well-used community facilities to improve their financial and/ or environmental sustainability, providing opportunities for local people to improve their day to day lives.
Since the CFP opened in 2015, the Welsh Government has funded 222 grants across Wales totalling £35.4million. Each project represents a well-used community facility which brings people together. Some of these facilities are also community owned.
