Welsh Conservatives welcome appointment of new Sport Wales chair

Welsh Conservatives have welcomed Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson’s appointment as the new chair of Sport Wales.

Tanni Grey-Thompson is a multi-gold medal winner in Paralympic sport, competing for Wales at five Paralympic Games and three Commonwealth Games.

She won 16 medals including 11 gold, and holds over 35 world records.

Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Tom Giffard MS, said:

“There is no doubt that Sport Wales is going to benefit massively from Tanni Grey-Thompson’s experiences and achievements.

“Sport Wales plays a pivotal role in developing and promoting sport and physical activity across Wales, and I can’t think of anyone better placed to champion that than Tanni.

“She is a leading figure in the world of sport and combines her experience as an athlete with her roles such as a UNICEF ambassador and trustee of the Commonwealth Sports Foundation.”

“I want to wish Tanni all the best in her new role and look forward to working with her, but I also want to thank the departing chair Lawrence Conway for all his work over the last five years.”
