Ryan Reynolds left red faced after asking what a yellow card was

IN HIS first game as a new owner, Ryan Reynolds embarrassed himself by asking Wrexham’s leading scorer Paul Mullin what a yellow card was.

Reynolds and Rob McElhenney joined together to become co-owners of the football team over a year ago. Last season, they helped Wrexham finish in second place and come so close to being promoted before losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off semifinals. They would also experience heartbreak when they lost the FA Trophy Cup against Bromley.

The two owners are popular in Wrexham, nevertheless, as evidenced by the fact that millions of people viewed the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary and that a second season has just been ordered. After initially buying the club, Reynolds and McElhenney attended as many games as they could by flying from their homes in the United States to the little city in northern Wales.

The two travelled to the Racecourse Ground for the first time to see a 1-1 draw with Torquay United after the sale was finalised.

Reynolds talked with the team’s ace striker Mullin during the game; the striker revealed a humorous and rather embarrassing incident for the new owner. Mullin was out with an injury at the time.

Speaking on the Rich Eisen show, Mullin said: “They didn’t show this in the documentary, but there’s one game, their first game, where someone got a yellow card and Ryan asked me if that meant they had to leave the field! Now though, they are right into it. They know all the rules.”

The documentary shows how the two owners have changed the fortunes of the football club, as well as their work in and around the community of Wrexham.

Speaking on the owners, Mullin said: “It was a bit strange at first, getting used to Hollywood movie stars being about but they are genuine people and we love working for them. Since they have taken over the club, they have galvanised the town.

“They gave everyone a real lift, at the club and around the community. I think that has been shown in the documentary. They have taken the club to new heights.”
