Ammanford fall short against Cardiff

IN a match dominated by two fine innings, one from each side, Ammanford finally succumbed to visitors Cardiff by 63 runs in Saturday’s Premier League fixture at the Park.

Put in to bat, Cardiff’s opener Umar Malik was the mainstay of Cardiff’s innings with a patient century which nevertheless contained 8 fours and 5 sixes. His was the eighth wicket to fall as he ran out of lower order partners.

Prem Sisodiya was Cardiff’s next best run-getter with 29.

For Ammanford, Matthew Fisher turned in another solid bowling performance with four wickets from his ten overs which cost 31 runs.

He was well supported by fellow spinner Josef Davies with 2-32 from nine overs.

In reply, Ammanford suffered a poor start, losing skipper Alun Evans with the score on 7.

However, the second wicket partnership between Dan Roberts and Matthew Fisher, which took the total past the century mark, infused serious hope of victory into the Ammanford innings.

Had these two been able to stay together a while longer, Ammanford would have cruised home, but Fisher’s dismissal for 45 signalled the beginning of the end.

Roberts was the fifth wicket to fall for an excellent 85 which contained 10 boundaries, but despite Craig Maloney and Josef Davies reaching double figures, none of the middle or lower order were able to get in and build on the team’s earlier efforts.

Ammanford were all out for 184 in the penultimate over, a result which confirmed Cardiff in top spot while Ammanford languish in the bottom three.

Next Saturday they travel to play Port Talbot in the Premier League whilst on Sunday they entertain Pembroke Dock in the Welsh Cup.
