Ammanford sign Swansea City legend Leon Britton

AMMANFORD AFC have signed former Swansea City star Leon Britton.
The club announced the news on their social media in a video with manager Gruffydd Harrison and two other former Swans in Andy Robinson and Lee Trundle.
The Zoom meeting saw the trio talk about adding a midfielder to the squad and it was left to Lee Trundle to introduce Leon Britton as the club’s new recruit.
Speaking on the video, Leon said he was ‘delighted’ to have signed for the club, adding that he can’t wait to get his boots back on to play for the Black and White army.
The announcement was greeted with huge enthusiasm amongst the ‘Black and White Army’ and early news of the latest signing broke on Radio Wales during the ‘Call Rob Phillips’ sports show when Clare a regular contributor and Ammanford AFC supporter broke the news live on the show.
A stunned Rob Phillips and his guest presenters Cameron Toshack and Jason Perry were taken aback by the news and enthused about Ammanford’s latest signing!
It still remains to be seen whether the powers that be reinstate elite status for Ammanford AFC and the JD Cymru South league, a decision that will be based on the outcome of the next Welsh government lockdown review towards the end of February.
The Club have followed all the necessary Covid-19 protocols to ensure that the health and safety guidelines for everyone involved with the club at all levels have been strictly adhered to and they are in a position to immediately implement all necessary requirements for training and match day management.
With a degree of optimism the Football Association of Wales have indicated that if it is deemed safe to resume the JD Cymru South league then the new season will start on the weekend of March 19 and end in late May, following a 28 day “pre-season”, with fixtures to be confirmed in due course
If the green light is given to start then Ammanford AFC are in great shape to kick off the season with plenty of optimism. The only downside is that the famous “Black and White Army” of supporters will not be able to attend the games which is a real shame but a necessity. The club though are working on innovative plans to ensure they maintain engagement with the loyal fan base during the season.
It has been a week of mixed emotions for everyone connected with Ammanford AFC, with the sad news of the passing of Colin Haines, a tremendous club servant, true gentleman and well respected throughout the football community of the Amman Valley and beyond. Deepest condolences are extended to all Colin’s family and friends.
