Ammanford, Wanderers and Llanelli all win

IT was a great weekend for our South Wales Premier League sides as Ammanford, Carmarthen Wanderers and Llanelli all picked up victories.

Division 1 side Ammanford earned their second win of the season last Saturday (Jun 2), as they beat Neath by four wickets.

Neath batted first after winning the toss but some good bowling from Daniel and Matthew Roberts, who both took three wickets, saw them bowled out for 143.

They had slipped to 62-7 but a late half century (55) from Greg Thomas and a score of 26 from Adam Sylvester gave them something to defend.

Although Ammanford lost Elis Richards early on in their reply, Rhodri-Huw Davies and Daniel Roberts steered their side towards their target.

Davies made 45 while Roberts scored 32 and it was left to Alun Evans who finished not out on 23 to guide his side over the line.

On Saturday, June 9, Ammanford are away to Bridgend.

In Division 2, Carmarthen Wanderers earned a 104-run victory over Swansea.

The Wanderers batted first and despite losing a number of players for low scores, they posted a good total of 214-9 from their 50 overs.

Gareth Thomas made an early score of 20 while Leighton Walters added 36 runs late on. Stephen Inward just missed out on a century as he finished not out on 99 (eight fours and three sixes).

In reply, none of Swansea’s batsmen scored more than 21 as they were all out for 110.

Ben Stein was Swansea’s top scorer with 21 and Gus Simon made 20 but it wasn’t enough to help them to victory.

Owain Binding and Steven Mills each took three wickets for the Wanderers while Joseph Jones and Gareth Thomas also struck twice.

Llanelli were also victorious as they beat Panteg by seven wickets. Panteg batted first but were all out for 127.

Sean Clarke and David Filer were joint top scorers for their side with 22 runs but some excellent bowling from Iwan Rees saw him finish with figures of 5-16.

Steven Devonald and Kyle Griffiths also took two wickets each.

Llanelli’s Marcus Leaf scored 27 and Iwan Rees scored 37 as they made a good start in their reply.

Devonald finished not out on 13 while Matthew Roberts hit four fours and a six as he finished not out on 39.

On Saturday (Jun 9), Carmarthen Wanderers host Clydach while Llanelli travel to Penarth.
